‘Aishah (radialláhu’ anha) said: “O Messenger of Allah! If I am in Laylatul Qadr what should I say? The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:” Say: Allahumma innaka’ afuwun tuhibbul ‘Anni Fafu Afua “Oh Allah! You are forgiving and you love Sorry, sorry.
Commentary
This is a prayer in which he beseeches Allah Ta’ala in His infinite grace, forgive us our sins. What else could we ask?
“DO NOT DEMAND THAT MY PRAYERS WILL BE ACCEPTED,
All I ask
IS THAT MY SINS
Be blotted
FROM THE PEN OF FORGIVENESS “
Imam Sufyan Thauri (rahmatulláhi ‘alayhi) said to dedicate this night to make du’a is better than any other act of’ ibadah. Ibn Rajab (rahmatulláhi `alayhi) said it was better not to focus only Du’a, but practice other forms of ‘Ibadah and reciting the Quran, Salah, dhikr and other acts of worship. This latter view is considered accurate and closer to what Rasulullah (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) has said, as we have seen in the ahadith.
