The Concept of Religion

Religion has been abused and misunderstandings over history. Thus, some have used as a means of exploitation and repression, as a pretext for prejudice and persecution, others, however, as a source of power and domination over the masses and the upper classes. In the name of religion have popped unjustifiable wars, has oppressed the freedom of thought and conscience, science has been pursued has been denied the right to the maturity of the individual, degrading, flagrantly, dignity and honor of man. And in the name of religion have caused, also, injustice to humanity, which have drawn many harm to religion.

These are historical facts that no one can deny. But is this the proper role of religion, religious right approach? Can this be the purpose of religion?: The indisputable answer is a strict “no.” There are many religions in the world and each one claims to be the only true religion. It is assumed that all religions come from God for guidance of man. But these claims, contradictory in themselves, have led to divisions among peoples, and vehement reactions to religion-instead of uniting mankind into one universal brotherhood under the One Universal Benevolent God. This situation confuses any neutral observer, tornadoes, perhaps, refractory to any of the religions.

The Islamic concept of religion is only in the broadest sense of the word. It is true that authentic religion must come from God for guidance of man. And it is equally true that human nature and major human needs are basically the same at all times. This idea leads to one conclusion: there is only one true religion that comes from the unique identity God to enlighten the great human problems of all time. This religion is Islam. Should, however, keep in mind that Islam was not only taught by the Prophet Muhammad. On the contrary, Islam has been taught by all the prophets before Muhammad, for the true followers of Abraham and Moses and Jesus and those of others, they were called Muslims. Islam has therefore been and will remain, the true universal religion of God, because God is One and Unchanging, and because human nature and major human needs are basically the same, regardless of the time, place, race, age, and any other considerations.

From these considerations, the Islamic concept maintains that religion is not only a spiritual and intellectual, but also a social and universal. Not intended to confuse the man, but guidance. Do not try to vilify, but to elevate his moral nature. Is not deprive him of anything useful, or overwhelmed, or oppress his qualities, but open to the inexhaustible treasures of sound discretion and right action. It does not seek to confine within narrow limits, but throwing to wide horizons of truth and goodness. In short, true religion must give people the knowledge of God, himself and the rest of the universe. This does not mean an oversimplification of religion. See their meaning:

When examined closely the goal of true religion, we see that it meets the spiritual and material demands moderate man. Unleash your complex psychological knots, sublimates his instincts and aspirations, their desires discipline, transforming the whole course of his life. Improve your knowledge of God, the Ultimate Truth of the Universe-and your self. It teaches the secrets of life and human nature and how they should treat them with respect to good and evil, about right and wrong. Purified. the soul of evil, to clarify the mind, builds character and corrects the thinking and beliefs of man. All this can be achieved only when the man observes, accurately, and spiritual duties introduced by the natural principles of religion.

Moreover, the true religion educates man and trained him in hope and patience, authenticity and honesty, in love right and good, in the strength and suffering, all of which are necessary for the domain of the great art of living. True religion says, also man against the fears and spiritual loss and ensures unwavering support and partnership with God. It provides man with peace, security, and meaning to his life.

This is what mankind can receive from the true religion is this, the concept of religion in Islam. Any religion that does not offer these fruits is not Islam or rather, not religion at all, and every man who does not get these benefits of religion is not religious, nor is afraid of God. God is totally truthful when he says in the Holy Qur’an: “Truly Allah’s religion is Islam [submission to Him]. Jews and Christians disagreed with pride despite the revelation had come to them. Whoever does not believe in the signs of Allah , know that Allah is swift in reckoning. ” (Qur’an, 3:19). “If anyone desires a religion other than Islam [submission to Allah] is not accepted, and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers.” (Qur’an, 3:85).
